Domestic Extension and Conversion

ASAP Architects pride themselves on providing added value to a general architectural service within Derbyshire and the surrounding counties of Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Staffordshire.  Most of our projects tend to be “one-offs” for private individuals, companies and institutions.  We are able to use our design and project management skills in the conversion and refurbishment of existing buildings more effectively, due to the very wide range of projects and building types with which we have become involved.

Current conversion and refurbishment projects involve the extension and alteration of existing homes and the conversion of barns and other building types to dwellings.

Barn conversion to holiday let     Located in the Peak District National Park, West Side Farm at Hulme End, this recently completed 2-3 Bed conversion, additionally provided opportunity for good disabled access, supplemented with large shower room and accessible ground floor bedroom.

Farmhouse conversion/extension     Once a working farm with house and outbuildings converted to a comfortable home adapted for retirement with downstairs bedroom, wet room including large lounge extension with panoramic views of the outlying countryside.  The garage houses a bird room and owl box to accommodate the existing resident swallows.

Cottage conversion/extension     Substantially a new house, created from a small cottage in a rural setting, this project demonstrates our design expertise in being able to meet the local authorities rather conservative views on style and scale whilst at the same time meeting our clients aspirations; these were to create a four bedroom house with substantial living spaces, and a ‘light and airy’ contemporary ‘feel’.

House conversion/extension Extension and alteration to a large Georgian-Regency Town House; requiring substantial structural repair and internal alterations to the kitchen and 1st floor, ensuite bathroom accommodation and double garage, with office above.

House resizing     A doubling in size of an existing characterful house, extending at both ends, to provide a sizeable family home with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a large first floor family room and spacious, airy, ground floor accommodation, maximising the outlook onto the secluded south facing rear garden. A tricky project in a very visible location, it blends well in the street scene, sitting sensitively between its neighbours.

Outbuilding conversion     Conversion of a detached outbuilding, to provide a double bedroom plus sitting/dining/kitchen space, over the existing 2 car garage. The ground floor entrance and shower room complete the accommodation to make it a useful self contained addition, for use by visiting family and friends, to the listed house. The tricky conversion involved the adoption of all existing openings and the complete refurbishment of this traditional stone and slate building. Completion imminent.

Farm building conversion     Recently completed, the conversion of a former cowshed to provide 2 additional bedrooms, a bathroom and study, plus the construction of a new snug and rear entrance, to link it to the cottage. As a second phase, a replacement detached, stone double garage, with external steps to storage over, was also built.  There were sensitive planning issues owing to the listed status of the cottage, and its visibility from the surrounding countryside.

Barn conversion     Conversion of a barn to provide a new 3 bedroom family home including lounge and utility extensions, with fully fitted kitchen and bathrooms. Landscaping of gardens and rebuilding of the existing garage.
